Iran Rejects “Zero Uranium Enrichment”

The Iranian government on Thursday ruled out entering a deal that forces Iran to dismantle its nuclear facilities, relinquish its uranium stockpiles, and stop enriching fissile material.

"Our proposal affirms that uranium enrichment is a sovereign right and proposes a temporary freeze on enrichment for a limited period," an Iranian official told Al Jazeera. "The principle of zero uranium enrichment forever, dismantling of nuclear facilities, and the transfer of uranium stockpiles is completely rejected."

We’re not particularly pro-Iran, but if you were in their shoes, would you feel any differently? How would Israel having nuclear weapons but Iran not even being allowed to have nuclear energy be remotely fair? Like how North Korea’s nukes have deterred the West from regime changing Kim Jong Un, Iranian leaders probably believe Tehran’s acquisition of The Bomb would deter its rivals from starting wars. Does Iran have the right to defend itself, too?
