Greta Thunberg Banned from Venice
Italian authorities have reportedly banned climate activist Greta Thunberg from Venice after she helped dye the city’s Grand Canal bright green. The banishment lasts 48 hours.
Thunberg and a group called Extinction Rebellion carried out the stunt to "draw attention to the massive effects of climate collapse” while arguing that rising sea levels and increased flooding make Venice one of Europe’s most vulnerable cities. They claim the campaign posed no ecological threat, which, on a gut level, is difficult to believe. They turned the water into the color of Nickelodeon slime.
The protest took place during the COP30 United Nations climate conference in Brazil. Extinction Rebellion carried out similar schemes in Genoa, Padova, Turin, Bologna, and Taranto.
