Trump Says He’s Reached a Deal With Iran. Iran Says Not so Fast.
Donald Trump says the Iran War is ending.
The president on Thursday claimed that the U.S. and Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei have reached a peace deal, declaring in the Oval Office that “we just made a great settlement of the war with Iran.” He says both parties could sign the pact as soon as this weekend. It will reportedly come in the form of a memorandum of understanding that will call for the toll-free opening of the Strait of Hormuz, sanctions relief for Iran, and the creation of a framework for addressing Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile.
Iranian officials quickly pumped the brakes on Trump’s announcement, reportedly saying that no such agreement exists. This is nearly the 40th time since early March that the White House has suggested the war was about to end.
