“Choose Peace”: Pope Implores World Leaders to Stop Killing People
Pope Leo XIV gave his first Easter Sunday address yesterday, delivering a message that the Washington war machine badly needs to hear.
“Let those who have weapons lay them down,” the Pope preached. “Let those who have the power to unleash wars choose peace… We are growing accustomed to violence, resigning ourselves to it, and becoming indifferent. Indifferent to the deaths of thousands of people… We cannot continue to be indifferent.”
Every cool-headed observer grasps the carnage the neocon program is reaping in the Middle East and understands that Jesus would hate it. What gets less consideration is Leo’s point about indifference. As we reported in January, constant images of U.S.-funded international bloodshed have desensitized Americans to violence, creating a society that views war as an equal alternative to peace, not as a dreaded last resort. A mindset shift is our country’s only hope for a brighter future.
