White House Correspondents' Dinner Suspect Faces Life in Prison
The Justice Department charged White House Correspondents' Dinner shooting suspect Cole Allen with a trio of crimes on Monday. His conviction could lead to life imprisonment.
Allen’s charges include attempting to assassinate the president of the United States, which carries a sentence of up to life in prison, transportation of a firearm and ammunition through interstate commerce with intent to commit a felony, which carries a sentence of up to 10 years, and discharge of a firearm during a crime of violence, which can also carry a 10-year sentence.
Allen appeared in court yesterday afternoon and is scheduled for a detention hearing on Thursday. A refresher on the details of his alleged crime is available here. All accused criminals are innocent until proven guilty, but this case seems like a slam dunk.
