The “W” in “WNBA” stands for “Women’s.” The league still will not explain what that means.

The WNBA is declining to clarify its eligibility rules, refusing to update its guidelines that say “only players who are women are eligible to play in the WNBA” but do not define the word “woman.” Officials reportedly spent hours deliberating over what a woman is this week, but somehow achieved no clarity. They found the question very perplexing. 

The meeting came less than one week after former NBA players Royce White and Enes Kanter declared for the WNBA Draft, arguing that the league must grant them eligibility to compete if they decide to identify as women. White, who is 6’8” and weighs roughly 265 pounds, declared himself “transgender” last Friday. Kanter has an over seven-foot wingspan. Each will doubtlessly dominate the WNBA, unless the league is too transphobic to permit them to take the floor.
